Phoenix UAS mRID

mRID

Pros: Very small, modular, your choice of any m10 GPS, lots of mounting options, designed by and for FPV pilots.

Cons: GPS must be purchased separately.

The Phoenix UAS mRID module was created by Brian and Ken who met on the FPVFC Discord server with the goal of creating a remote ID module to meet the FAA requirements and needs of FPV pilots.

The module is very small. Measuring in at only 24mm x 14mm x 8mm and 2.2g!

One of the benefits of this module is that it allows you to use any m10 GPS which you might already own. Since the GPS is not integrated into the board, you can mount the GPS where it can get a good signal and then mount the mRID somewhere else where it might be more protected. The GPS information can also be passed through to Betaflight and used for GPS coordinates in your OSD as well as the “return to home” feature.

mRID module and GPS with cable

This Foxeer m10q-180 is just one example of many compatible m10 GPS units.

The mRID can be powered by your flight controllers 5v supply or by its usb port. If you wish to use it in a stand alone mode, it can be powered by a small 1s battery.

It has an integrated antenna so you don’t have to worry about damaging it in a crash or find a good place to mount it.

Another bonus is that the firmware can be updated, allowing for the potential to have features added in the future.

The following video from our FPVFC Community Meeting has more details about the company and the story about how the mRID came to be.
